Five Beauty Products Every Girl Boss Should Own

:: shop the post ::

I love when it snows here because I got the prettiest views from my makeup counter! Straying from the weekly makeup tutorial and getting right into the products everryyy girl boss needs to own. Seriously! These products are at the top of my list and used almost daily (does that make me a girl boss?).

1- Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz
Believe it or not, I still have people commenting on my posts/telling me that they haven’t started filling in their brows as part of their makeup routine. This actually shocks me since it’s such an easy product and makes a huge difference! The brow wiz from ABH is my all-time favorite brow pencil. It fills and defines, comes in 20+ shades and is under $25. I’ve been using it for 6-7 months and have never gone back to another brow product. Although very occasionally I will use the ABH dip brow, but it doesn’t create the natural effect (I preview the brow wiz over it!). If you want more details on those precious brows, check out this post where I talk alllll about brows.

2- Mac Cosmetics Lipstick in Ruby Woo
Every girl boss needs to own a red lip. One of the most popular red lipsticks in the makeup world is Mac Cosmetic’s ‘Ruby Woo’. It’s a bright, poppy red and is one of my favorite lipstick shades. If you want to, you can grab their lip pencil which helps with filling in your lips! Besides my favorite nude lip, Ruby Woo makes a frequent appearance in my makeup routine. If you do go with a red lip for your makeup, keep the rest of your face simple (nothing too bold on the eyes!) so that all focus is one that bright red 🙂

3- Nivea Men’s After Shave Balm
I swear by this after-shave balm as a makeup primer. I know it might sound a little strange, but it works great! Before I was using a primer from Marc Jacobs and I actually prefer this balm over the more expensive primers I’ve tested out. It’s really thin so you don’t need to much (which makes it last forever) and it’s only about $5. It does smell like men’s cologne, but the scent goes away after a few seconds.

4- Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Eyeshadow Palette
I am all for a neutral eyeshadow palette. This Urban Decay palette was one of my first Sephora purchases ever and it’s still in frequent use. There are 6 shades, all of them are really neutral and natural looking so it makes a great palette for a smokey eye.

5- itCosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer
Even though I’ve been using this concealer for a few weeks, I still won’t ever give up my itCosmetics concealer. I first heard about it from The Small Things Blog about 2 years ago and it’s been my favorite ever since. It’s extremely thick, so you only need a tiny tiny dot to cover a large area. It covers redness and zits like a boss 💪🏽

  • Marcie

I’ve never heard of using after shave as a makeup primer! This is brilliant! And your view of the snow is stunning!

  • jessi

I love the Nivea aftershave. My husband thought I was crazy when I bought it lol. My go to pallet though is the lorac pro, the original one! It is my staple!

    • Lydia

Haha! It’s one of my favorite primers. I haven’t used any of the Lorac Pro palettes, they look so pretty though!

  • Joanna @ Everyday Made Fresh

I need to check out that concealer! I’m not sure about that brow gel. I sort of like my brows the same color as my hair. I’m not brave enough to change it.

    • Lydia
      Joanna @ Everyday Made Fresh

The concealer is a godsend! With the brow pencil, you’re brows should be the same shade. Head to Sephora and have them color match so it’s the most natural shade! Filling in your brows is a must!

  • CoCo

Girl we think alike!!!! I have all of these things except the it cosmetics concealer! I can never find it in stores and I have no idea what color to order

    • Lydia

You can order it online at Ulta or head to one of their stores! I have the shade neutral and it’s perfect.

  • Jeanine

I haven’t heard of most of these so I will for sure have to check it all out. I am especially curious about the bye bye underage concealer that sounds like it would do wonders for me!

    • Lydia

The itCosmetics concealer is seriously the best! Highly recommend!

  • Debra

These look like great products, I love the pallet of eyeshadow, those are totally my colors!

    • Lydia

The UD Basics palette is a staple, perfect for a smokey eye and for those who like to keep it natural on their eyes 🙂

  • Jaimie

I never would have thought that an after shave balm would double as a makeup primer! I have seen this product all over YouTube but never went out and purchased it myself. I agree that the ABH Brow Wiz is one of the best brow products I have come across

    • Lydia

It’s really similar to the Marc Jacobs coconut primer just a lot cheaper! And I’m not gonna lie, I kinda love the smell haha!

  • Tereza

How amaaaaazing is the view from your window tho, I can’t cope haha! Mine is all foggy and horrid right now. Sigh. I really need to get the UD naked palette, I’ve been saying that for too long! I’ve also found that the Nivea is virtually same as Marc Jacobs coconut primer (in feels – definitely not in ingredients) xx

    • Lydia

Thank you Tereza! One of the few perks of living in the middle of nowhere, haha! I agree, definitely get that naked palette, one of the best. I used to own the MJ coconut primer and the shame balm is so similar (but yes, ingredients aren’t quite as nice but you can’t beat that price!)

  • Stephanie Lee

Love this list! I’m realizing how much of a difference it makes when your brows are on point.

    • Lydia
      Stephanie Lee

Same girl same! Brows on point make your entire makeup look on point 🙂

  • Krystal // The Krystal Diaries

I love filling in my brows. I actually don’t do it all the time though. I save it for weekends or nights out. I just don’t want to look to done up just to go into the office everyday.

    • Lydia
      Krystal // The Krystal Diaries

I used to only fill in my brows for night outs but I started doing it every day several months ago, you need to start doing it! Makes your entire face look done and prepared for the day!

  • Robin Rue

I have never heard of a lot of these products. I am going to have to look into adding them to my collection.

    • Lydia
      Robin Rue

      They are seriously the best!

  • Jen K

I really need to up my makeup game. I was just thinking about it this morning. I have had the same routine for years.

    • Lydia
      Jen K

Mixing up your lipstick makes a huge difference!

  • Angela Tolsma

haha I don’t own any of these. Well I do own tons of lipsticks but not a primer or eyebrow kit. I fill my brows only when I do a full face of makeup otherwise not at all.

    • Lydia
      Angela Tolsma

Girl, you should definitely get the ABH brow wiz! Game. Changer.

  • Sarah

I love my Naked palette. I got it for Christmas and it is probably my favorite makeup item I own!

    • Lydia

I agree! I love all of my Urban Decay palettes, they are the best!

  • Angela

I love Mac cosmetics and do we want to talk about the colour of that lipstick?!? Just gorgeous.

    • Lydia

      Right? So stunning!

  • Holly

These are some really great picks. I use the UD 3 because I like the rose gold tones.

  • Missy Burson

I love the Small Things Blog- any fan of hers is a blog I should be reading! I’m going to try the Nivea lotion for a primer as my primer is kind of expensive- and I love the smell of men’s cologne!

    • Lydia
      Missy Burson

The Small Things Blog was my first blog I ever subscribed too! She is definitely one of my favorite bloggers out there. Let me know how you like the Nivea primer, it’s my favorite!

  • Ashley @ Far Beyond Love

I cannot live without concealer! That and mascara are my absolutely must-haves.

    • Lydia
      Ashley @ Far Beyond Love

Concealer is definitely a must! I opt for my brows instead of lashes, I feel more ‘put-together’ when my brows are done!

  • Laura

I love a good neutral eye shadow…and good reminder that I need to get a new brow palette – I might have to try this one out!

    • Lydia

The Brow Wiz is seriously one of the best beauty inventions ever 😂 I think if you go to Sephora, they can test out different brow products and see which one works best/you like the most, too!

  • rojielyn

being simple is good but to enhance your beauty is much better. i agree every girl must have these.

    • Lydia

      I agree, less is more!

  • Kristin

These are great picks. I love Ruby Woo lipstick. It has been a fav of mine for a long time. Mac cosmetics are some of my absolute favorites!

    • Lydia

Ruby Woo is the ultimate red! Mac is one of my favorites, too!

  • Kim

I think I am starting to become a beauty junkie! I have to try these out. I love lip products that keep me moisturized!

    • Lydia

Haha, I feel you! I have WAY too much makeup, time for a cleanse. I didn’t include it, but the fresh. sugar balms are so amazing! They’re one of my favorite lip products that add color and moisture

  • Mandy Carter

Great suggestion list of products to use. I love using under eye concealer, I am going to check this one out.

  • Heather

I’m really surprised about the after shave balm! I would never think to use that as a primer, what an interesting idea!

  • Keren Charles

I will have to try the Men’s Nivea Aftet Shave balm. Sounds like it works, so I will try it too. I agree about Ruby Woo. It’sthe perfect shade for every complexion. Thanks for sharing

  • Kiwi

Do you know I just found my Ruby Woo today?? I was so upset that I lost and I tried finding other reds and nope…this is my signature red best one in the world!

  • HilLesha

These are wonderful recommendations! I love Anastasia Beverly Hills, but I have never tried their Brow Wix before. I’ll have to check it out sometime!

  • Brittany

I use the Bye Bye Undereye Concealer and love it but I haven’t tried any of the other products. I know that I’m way behind on the Naked Palettes. I would never have thought to use after shave as a primer – how inventive.

  • Vaishnavi

Wow. Lovely recommendations for the well deserving girl boss in us! It’s been a while since I treated myself to a beauty product. So its just the time for me!
