travel essentials.

how gorgeous is skagway? the view is unbelievable.

Incase you missed it, I recently went on an Alaskan cruise with my family! It was SO gorgeous and I wanted to share a few essentials that saved me. I absolutely love traveling and can’t wait for the next adventure (Chicago in September, Disney World in October, and *hopefully* D.C. in November, that’s yet to be decided). Where is your next trip to? Comment below where you’re heading + what you always have on hand!

luggage tag + passport holder: If you’re like me and have the ever-so typical black luggage, it’s so hard to find it when you get to baggage claim. I got the cutest luggage tag from Ankit (favorite store) and it was easy to spot my black luggage. And you’ll definitely want a passport holder because, why not? Slightly obsessing over this one.

iphone charging case OR portable battery: Trust me, you’re going to want a charger for traveling that doesn’t require a port. I have been using my mophie case all day, every day and it’s so nice not to have to worry about my battery dying. If you don’t want a thick case, bring along a portable battery! My sister had one of them in the plane and while traveling in Alaska and it was a huge help.

sleeping mask: Fun story, when we were coming back we got delayed in Dallas (ugh, Texas, come on) and didn’t end up leaving until almost four hours after the estimated time. Needless to say, that was a rough day and that sleeping mask helped me fall asleep in the bright plane. I also shared a cruise room with three other people and we all went to bed/woke up at different times, so a mask to block out the lights was a life saver.

crossbody to fit carry-on items: I brought a small (small) cross body, I wish I had brought something bigger but I didn’t have to many items in the first case. Just enough to fit our passport, wallet, phone, and a few other items that you might want to have (like a book or two, extra shirt, etc). The bag I linked is only $50 and so gorgeous. A tote is another great option, I’m living for this color!

cute travel outfit (aka, leggings and a sweatshirt ;)): I wore an oversized t-shirt and THE comfiest leggings ever (<<< buy them stat. seriously) when we were heading to Seattle. On the way back, I wore a sweatshirt and leggings. Pretty much always wearing leggings, ha! I’m constantly amazed at how gorgeous other bloggers look when traveling, I look like I literally fell out of bed (most of the time that’s the case, hehe). Comfort is key, especially if you’re traveling somewhere cold or on a long plane trip.

music + something to do: I downloaded a few new Spotify playlists and podcasts to listen to on the plane (The Skinny Confidential, The Lady Gang, Soft Pop Hits and Move On & Don’t Look Back on Spotify). Whatever cures your boredom, bring and throw into your bag!

When we’re traveling, I prefer to wear a cross body purse. It makes me feel like my items inside are more protected.

    • Lydia
      Shannon Gurnee

I agree! Much easier to keep track of things!

I’m heading to Louisville, Kentucky. Yes, I am that glamorous! Lol. I always have my ID and a camera. Can’t forget the camera!

    • Lydia
      Beth Davidson

Yess, camera is definitely an essential!

  • Cassie

I agree with all of these!! I always make sure I have some lip balm and hand cream on a plane too because my skin always dries out horribly and I get to the other end feeling awful!

    • Lydia

Oh yes, those are both good! My sister and dad both brought chapstick on the trip and thank god, because I used that stuff religiously haha!

  • Karen Morse

Awesome travel essentials! I love the prints as well. I definitely make sure that I have everything I need before we hit the road. I hate forgetting the essentials!

Yes, I agree! Nothing is worse then forgetting something important.

  • Kelly Hutchinson

When I travel, I always bring a medium sized cross body bag. It is easy to carry and fits my essentials perfectly.

      The perfect essential!

Depending on the airline, we always like to bring our carry ons with us. We only check if they make us! We like to zip through the airport and get to our ride as fast as possible. I have started bringing a huge scarf. It doubles as a pillow or blanket in a cold plane!

  • Rachel

Alaskan cruise seems right up my alley. I am not necessarily a tropical beach person which limits a lot of cruise destinations.

    • Lydia

      You would love Alaska, Rachel!

  • AnnMarie John

I’m sure you had an amazing time there! I love the charging case, it would be a life saver especially if you’re going to be out all day! It’s definitely a must have!

    • Lydia
      AnnMarie John

It definitely was! Thanks AnnMarie 🙂

  • Jessica Joachim

Portable batteries are for sure a must have! I know mine has come in handy so many times and I am so glad that I have it. My phone always wants to die right when I want to take a great picture of the kids

    • Lydia
      Jessica Joachim

Haha, that always seems to be the case!

  • Lindsey Mozgai

I can’t remember the last time I went on a trip and had everything I needed! Everytime I travel I imagine what I need and realize what I should bring. Thanks for putting this all in a post for later!

  • Joanna @ Everyday Made Fresh

I want to one day go on an Alaskan cruise! What an awesome vacation. I love your list of travel essentials. I also find a travel mask a must have.

I’ve always wanted to do an Alaskan cruise! Our next trip will be a cruise to the Bahamas in June 2018 with just the hubby and I for a honeymoon trip.

    • Lydia

Aah, the Bahamas are absolutely gorgeous! I loved when I visited.

  • melissa chapman

I do not travel much but those mountains in Alaska look amazing and makes me want to go. I love all your ideas for making sure the traveling goes smoothly. A good luggage tag is important.

  • Jeanine

This is fabulous. I don’t travel often so when I do I look forward to these posts telling me what I NEED and don’t need, because i awlays forget this or overpack!

    • Lydia

      Glad I could help 🙂

  • Anna nuttall

    • Lydia
      Anna nuttall

I can NOT travel without music. It’s like it’s the end of the world if I forget headphones, hah!

  • Blythe Alpern

I received a Bando luggage tag in a PR box and it has quickly become one of my favorite travel accessories. It makes it so easy to spot my bag. I just hope the baggage people don’t rip it off like they have other tags.

    • Lydia
      Blythe Alpern

Yes, it’s so easy to spot! makes the cutest tags, too 🙂

  • Cindy Ingalls

I never go anywhere without a back up charger for my electronics. You never know when you might have a low battery and no place to plug in your phone or tables.

  • Amber Nelson

I definitely am interested in doing more travelling. These sounds like some perfect essentials!

  • Carolyn

I agree that leggings are awesome to travel in. I also like to have a purse big enough to carry extra items. Sounds like you have done some great traveling.

  • HilLesha

How beautiful! Alaska is one destination that I’d love to visit someday. Also, these travel essentials are must haves for me, too.

  • Charlotte

wow a stunning view! I love the idea of an Alaskan cruise, it’s definitely a different experience

    • Lydia

The last cruise we went on was the Caribbean, so the weather and views were very different (just as gorgeous, if not more)!

  • Brittany

Wow this view is absolutely mesmerizing! I would absolutely love to go there and see it myself one day!

    • Lydia

You would love it, it was beautiful and such a fun time!
